SE Training Day 2012

At a Training Day in the South East region in May, ten dogs spent the morning working on their recall (with their owners!) and on a secure chase recall. In afternoon the various elements of a carriage dog trials were emulated and people practised with their dogs being vetted, working alongside a horse (Alison Burgess’s Danny who has seen it all before) and instinct tests with a horse and carriage (with thanks to stalwart volunteer driver Sue Page with her patient pony Domino).

Dogs which gained their Instinct Certificates on the day were:

  • JANIS KING’S ARTHUR
  • ELISE LEAL’S BAXTER
  • WENDY RIDLEY’S HUGO
  • ANGELA BROOKE SMITH’S FOZZ
  • CHARLES ELLIS’ RALPH
  • CHRIS CLELAND’S OZZY
  • CELIA GILBERT’S HARLEY

Three other dogs also came along to join in the training:

  • LIZ LEWES AND POPPY (Already gained their Instinct Certificate in 2011)
  • MIRANDA PURVES AND SPLASH CDS
  • PIPPA ELLEN AND LILY (Already gained their Instinct Certificate in 2011)

Sometimes we use a long line so the assistant can guide its learning if necessary to help it make the right decision and then we can reward it.

When you are up high on a carriage, they a dog will not always initially know where you’ve gone.
